Chillerton and Gatcombe Parish Council put out an appeal for willing volunteers to help spruce up the Villages ahead of the annual village show. Around 20 residents gave up their Sunday to trim some of the footpaths, wash the name signs and repair and paint the benches. The old BT telephone box and the bus shelters were also given a sweep out and wash down.
Refreshments, including bacon baps were provided at the Village Hall. The day was co-ordinated by Graham Hatch and Katie Jones who have recently been co-opted to the Parish Council.
Katie said ‘We got lots done, rubbed down and painted the 2 benches on the green, the bench by the school and the one at the bottom of Brook Lane. The path up to the playground has been cleared and strimmed, as well as foliage cut back on the footpath up to St Olaves. We’d like to thank all the volunteers for their time and would be delighted if ‘Spruce up Sunday’ becomes an annual event.’
